“Out beyond ideas of rightdoing and wrongdoing there is a field, I will meet you there.—–Rumi

“If a profound gulf separates my neighbour’s belief from mine, there is always the golden bridge of tolerance.”——Rumi
                                                                                                                                                                                                                              TOLERANCE= TO(To)LE (let)and not R (react) A(and) this  allows N (new) C (currents) to E (emerge).

We are living in a world where each one of us is different. We are in a world where variety and diversity exists.We are in a world where no two things,beings,plants,animals etc., are identically the same.There are different religious and political beliefs, different views about art, philosophy, economics, ecology and so on. There are differences of lifestyle, cultural differences, different sexual preferences. There are differences of gender, race, colour, nationality and language. There are differences of personality and temperament, different individual strengths and weaknesses.There are different ways of dressing, different colour preferences, different likes and dislikes.Wherever we look there is difference; a rich, abundant profusion of difference.We exist in a world filled with the richness of differences.

This is what makes it beautiful,spicy,juicy,alive and potent. In case it was all identically the same then life would have been boring,monotonous and a big drag. It would have been plain and uninteresting.

Living in this world filled with differences, it becomes the responsibility of each of us to TOLERATE. This begins with first tolerance of all aspects of ourselves.As it is then that it flows out towards our outer world.

Tolerance is the acceptance that other people hold different views from ourselves. Tolerance is the willingness to allow others to be different in their views and actions. Above all tolerance is the absolute avoidance of using power, violence or coercion to force other  people to think and believe as we do.Tolerance is an attitude of loving kindness.

Intolerance on the other hand is the willingness to use force, violence and coercion to make other people behave as we want them to and hold the views we want them to hold. There is also the intolerance that doesn’t want to force others to change but simply wants to exterminate or exile them for being different. Our world history tells us that intolerance has existed.

And this is what causes a lot of trouble in the world and between individuals, this fact of difference. Because the fact of difference leads to disagreement and not enough is understood about the art of disagreement. So how do we practise tolerance without being weak, vague or negatively condescending.

Tolerance of individuals different from us is what keeps communities together. Intolerance of beliefs different from ours creates strife. Intolerance breeds hate. It is the base for bigotry, racism and radicalism.

The force of power never wins against the power of love. At this hour of greatest unrest and turmoil in our world, the greatest force to be reckoned with lies within our hearts — a force of love and tolerance for all. “If humanity is to progress, Gandhi is inescapable. He lived, thought, acted and inspired by the vision of humanity evolving toward a world of peace and harmony.” – Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The purpose of my life  is to raise our consciousness to a point where we recognise the fact that all life is divine.

It first begins with self acceptance of our own differences. Tolerating and accepting everything that exists within with kindness. This is a continuous life long practice that helps bring inner tolerance thus helps it to radiate outwardly too. A small daily serenity prayer could also be included as I believe that energy follows thought and also it is our responsibility to intend and state out clearly what we need. Here it goes, the prayer is as follows:

Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, (life and other people)

the courage to change the things I can,(Me,my own attitudes and behaviours)

and the wisdom to know the difference.(clarity to know the difference)

This is such a powerful, simple, and functional formula for living life.

May all beings be free from pain and suffering. My we all be aware, awake and kind staying present in the moment with kindness. May we all learn to tolerate and accept our own differences.Infinite Blessings to each of you my dear ones.
